Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Develop a plan for training
   • Identify and assess the training needs of the dog/handler team.
   • Develop a training plan that addresses the unique needs, strengths and weaknesses of the team.
   • Schedule training program to meet priority needs within the organisation.
2. Train dogs
   • Implement training program according to training plan time frames.
   • Handle and control the dog in a way that maintains its performance and safety.
   • Use organisation's approved dog training methods.
   • Use training equipment in accordance with legislation, policy and guidelines.
   • Assess the dog’s response to training without delay.
3. Record and report on the progress of dogs
   • Complete training records for dogs as required by the organisation.
   • Report dog’s progress to appropriate people.
   • Review training plan to reflect the changing needs of the dog/handler team and organisation.
